What does polarized mean?

Polarized sunglasses include a type of filter that only allows light to pass through in a vertical direction. In other words, they block horizontal light when it bounces off surfaces such as water, the ground or ice.

Difference between UV400 and polarized sunglasses

People often confuse polarization with UV400 protection. UV400 protection helps protect the eyes from the sun's ultraviolet rays, while polarized sunglasses improve visibility by eliminating glare.

How to tell if sunglasses are polarized

Polarization has nothing to do with the color of the lens. It is related to the way the lens blocks sunlight vectorially, helping prevent glare from horizontal reflections.

One method is to place the lens in front of an LCD screen, such as a computer screen, and check whether the light through it progressively darkens or brightens as you turn the angle of the lens. If this happens, it indicates that the lens is polarized.

Another method is to select two lenses and form an L-shaped angle of 90 degrees. If darkening occurs, it means the lenses are polarized.

Polarized or regular lenses?

It depends on the environment you are in. Good sunglasses, even regular ones, reduce light intensity and protect you from UV rays. The advantage of polarized glasses is that they prevent glare on reflective surfaces such as water or snow.
